Commuters in Madison County can anticipate smoother journeys as the latest phase of the Reunion Parkway Project officially opens. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 5, attended by county and state leaders, to inaugurate the new infrastructure.
This third phase of the project, costing $22.7 million, introduces a new two-lane road and bridge connecting Highway 51 to Parkway East. Officials highlight that the development promises to enhance the safety and efficiency of both personal and commercial transportation in the region.
Willie Simmons, Central District Transportation Commissioner, emphasized the benefits, stating, “The citizens are going to benefit from it because they are going to be able to move themselves safely but also the cargo. Moving the cargo to and from where it is needed to be and moving in a manner that will be supportive to Madison County but also the region as a whole.”
This phase was made possible through a collaboration between Madison County and the Mississippi Department of Transportation, which secured essential federal funding. However, road work in the county is far from over, with ongoing projects on Bozeman Road and the second phase of Reunion Parkway.
Phase Two involves constructing a new road and an I-55 overpass from Parkway East to Bozeman Road, where Phase Three concludes. Completion is expected by August. So the completed network of roads for the area will service our constituents in a way that they can get to work and school safer in the afternoons and in the morning.
Local resident Phil McCoy expressed his approval of the ongoing developments, noting the necessity of such improvements due to Madison’s rapid growth. The road work in Madison needed to happen because Madison is growing so fast. Improving the roads will help traffic flow will be much better and will in result in a better lifestyle overall for Madison the city.
