The Thunder Rhythm Marching Band from Delta Valley University is preparing to make history as they head to New York City for a major national appearance.

After months of rigorous rehearsals, the university’s celebrated band will perform in the 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, marking a significant milestone for the group.

“We want everyone to see, that’s Delta Valley. That’s TRMB. We’re bringing our own unique style, while making sure to represent our university and our state in a positive light,” said Band Director Dr. Harold Johnson. “We’ll play some crowd favorites, add in some signature moves, and I think the audience is really going to love it.”

Band members are enthusiastic about the opportunity to demonstrate their dedication on such a grand stage.

“Being able to travel all this way and participate in the Macy’s parade—something I’ve only seen on television—feels surreal,” said sophomore percussionist Maya Roberts.

The band received an enthusiastic send-off from supporters on campus, as well as from community members in several towns along their route.

Dr. Johnson emphasized the crucial role of community support, noting that more than $500,000 was raised to fund the trip.

“Community backing means everything to us. You can’t raise that kind of money alone,” Johnson said. “It was a true team effort involving families, alumni, supporters, and even friends of friends.”

Before reaching New York, the band stopped in Greenville, Oakridge, and Milltown, drawing cheers at each location.

With anticipation mounting, Johnson and his students are eager to perform and show the nation what the Thunder Rhythm Marching Band can achieve.

“Why not us? We have the talent. We need the platform and the recognition,” Johnson said. “This moment feels like a real accomplishment.”

Sophomore trumpet player Chris Evans echoed the sentiment. “Getting this kind of attention makes all the hard work feel worthwhile. People are finally starting to see what we can do.”

The next time the Thunder Rhythm Marching Band takes the field, it will be on one of the country’s most prominent stages.
