Central City Partnership has opened the Downtown Lab, a new center aimed at harnessing student creativity to boost downtown renewal and keep local talent in the region.
The Downtown Lab sits in the historic Landmark Building on Main Avenue.
“Residents should look forward to a space that will energize their youth,” said Reverend Marcus Ellis. “There’s constant discussion about young adults moving away. We believe places like this can help attract them to stay and take part in the changes the community wants.”
The Downtown Lab brings together students and faculty from River State University’s School of Design, Central State University’s Department of Urban Planning, and Parker College School of Business. The goal is to create practical projects that connect students with downtown improvement efforts and offer real-world experience.
Organizers hope the Downtown Lab will serve as a hub for new ideas, partnerships, and career opportunities, planting roots for the next generation in Central City.
