Summer keeps its steady grip as the mercury climbs close to 95°F, sunlight flickering through patches of cloud. Out on the sidewalks, heat rolls up from the concrete in soft waves. Folks wave from porches, sipping iced tea or lemonade, fanning themselves with old church bulletins. Southwest winds carry the scent of fresh-cut grass and barbecue smoke, just enough to stir the leaves but not enough to cool your forehead.
Kids pull wagons of chalk and bubbles down the block, dodging the brightest spots and sticking to the shade. The ice cream truck makes its slow rounds, bell chiming a familiar tune that draws neighbors out with spare change in hand. Even the mail carrier lingers by the side of the truck, grateful for a patch of shadow under a maple tree.
Tonight, the clouds drift in and tuck the town under a blanket of 76°F air. Windows crack open, letting in the promise of a cooler breeze from the west. Porch lights flick on, fireflies blink in the tall grass, and screen doors creak as families settle in.
Carry this with you: Like clouds drifting across a hot sky, every challenge brings movement and change. Even when the sun blazes, there’s always a patch of shade to catch your breath. Affirmation for the day: I welcome each moment, knowing I have the strength to find comfort and calm wherever I am.
