Grammy Award-winning singer Jasmine Brooks will return to her hometown of Riverdale on Wednesday for a reception and celebration in her honor.
The event starts at 5 p.m. in downtown Riverdale along Oak Avenue between Maple and Cedar Streets. An after-party is set to follow at The Sip Lounge.
Event organizers stressed the importance of recognizing Brooks’ legacy, her influence on the music industry, and the pride she brings to Riverdale. Residents are invited to join the celebration.
City Council member Marcus Hayes described the event as a major moment for Riverdale. “She was born here and lived in Riverdale until she was four, before moving away to pursue her dreams as an artist,” Hayes said. “She has given so much back to this city. She’s a New York Times bestselling author, she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her music career includes performances with artists like Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin. We are proud to honor her.”
