It was a milestone weekend for the surging No. 12-ranked River Valley University baseball team as head coach Mark Thompson secured his 100th win at the helm of the historic program.
Thompson, who assumed head coaching duties following the retirement of longtime skipper Bill Carter three seasons ago, reached the century mark in just 137 games—the fastest in school history.
“I am so grateful to be in this position, as there’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” Thompson said. “It’s a true honor to lead this program. Reaching 100 wins is a testament to the hard work of our players, assistant coaches, and support staff. We have an outstanding group, and this accomplishment is the result of everyone’s collective effort. I am humbled to guide this team.”
The achievement was punctuated by River Valley’s series sweep of archrival Central State on the road in Franklin over the weekend, a set that included a commanding run-rule victory.
The last time River Valley swept the Warriors away from home was in 2009, the same year the Eagles made their last appearance in the national championship series.
Thompson’s Eagles are set to return to action Tuesday night with a matchup against in-state rival Lakeside University.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Eagle Stadium, with live coverage available on SportsNet+.
