A routine traffic stop on I-22 in Lee County led to a significant drug seizure last week, as officers uncovered 185 pounds of marijuana hidden in a stolen vehicle on an 18-wheeler car hauler. The operation was conducted by criminal interdiction officers from the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division, in collaboration with agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
The truck, which originated in Oklahoma City and was en route to Florida, was found carrying the drugs in the bed of a stolen pickup truck loaded on its trailer. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Derrick Lee, was apprehended at the scene and now faces charges including a logbook violation and marijuana trafficking.
Authorities commended the interdiction team’s efforts, describing the operation as a significant step toward enhancing the safety of Mississippi’s highways from criminal activities.
