The spirit of giving was on full display at Maplewood Kitchen & Grill this holiday season, as city officials joined forces with local business leaders to distribute food boxes to residents in need.
“We’re hosting a community give-back today because so many families are struggling to afford basic necessities, especially as the holidays approach,” said restaurant owner Denise Carter. “We hope to ease a few burdens and make things a little brighter for those facing tough times.”
Cars lined up in the parking lot of Maplewood Kitchen & Grill, where volunteers—including State Representative Marcus Hall—joined Carter and her staff to hand out food boxes throughout the afternoon. The effort provided dozens of families with extra support as they prepare for the holiday season.
Giving back to her community holds personal significance for Carter. “I know what it’s like to go without,” she shared. “Growing up, my parents didn’t always have a lot, so now that I’m in a position to help, I want to give back to the community that’s supported me.”
Representative Hall emphasized the importance of public officials being present in their communities. “Representative government means more than working in the capitol building. People want to see their leaders out here, meeting them, listening to their concerns, and working alongside them,” Hall said.
Volunteers echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve their neighbors during a time when community support is needed more than ever.
