A lottery player from northern Mississippi claimed a $2 million prize after winning in the Powerball drawing held on Wednesday, April 29.
The winning ticket was bought at Sam’s Corner Market in Oakridge. The winner, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke with the Mississippi Lottery Corporation while claiming the prize. “It was just my lucky day,” the player said.
To secure the win, the player matched all five white balls—3, 19, 35, 51, and 67—earning an initial $1 million. By adding the $1 Power Play option, the prize doubled to $2 million.
With the money now in hand, the winner said they plan to pay off their mortgage, help family members with college expenses, and donate to a local food pantry. They also mentioned setting aside funds for a small business idea and building an emergency savings account.
Many people dream of a big lottery win, but what would you do with $2 million? Some choose to invest, while others focus on supporting their loved ones or giving back to the community.
The Powerball jackpot now resets to an estimated $20 million for the Saturday, May 2 drawing. The cash value stands at $9.1 million.
Lottery officials confirmed on Friday, May 8, that the prize has been claimed. If you play, remember to check your tickets and consider how you would use a sudden windfall.
