Members of Oakwood Community Church put their carpentry skills to use over the weekend, working together to support some of the area’s most at-risk children during the Beds for Kids Build event.

Organized in partnership with Child Advocacy Partners (CAP), the event brought volunteers together to construct beds for children in the local community who lack a safe and comfortable place to sleep. CAP, which trains volunteers to support abused and neglected children in Pinecrest County’s family court system, joined forces with the church to address this critical need.

Several young volunteers, including members of Cub Scout Pack 47, spent their day off from school measuring, sanding, and assembling bed frames. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help others.

“It helps us realize how fortunate we are to have a place to sleep every night, and it feels good to give back to those who don’t,” said Michael Sanders, a youth volunteer.

“It makes me happy to know that kids who have faced hard times will now have something they might not have had before,” added Sophia Morgan, another participant.

Pastor David Reynolds shared that Oakwood Community Church has already built more than 40 beds for children in need throughout the county. He emphasized that the ministry’s mission is not only to help children, but also to encourage church members to appreciate life’s basic necessities.

“Every person here is involved in the process—everyone sands, drills, and assembles each piece of wood to make these beds,” Reynolds said. “It’s meaningful to be able to help others, to share the love of Christ, and to live out what a church is meant to do.”
