A new farmers market opened its doors Thursday in Rivertown, offering local, farm-fresh food to families across the area.
The River Valley Fresh Market features fruits, vegetables, meats, and ready-to-eat meals. Local growers now have a direct way to sell their produce, which helps both farmers and the local economy.
“All of the money spent here stays right here in our state and supports our community,” said Angela Carter with the Rural Women’s Collective. “Farmers get paid, their workers get paid, and so do the people handling and selling the food.”
Organizers say the market aims to give Rivertown families better access to fresh, healthy food.
Tamara Fields, also from the Rural Women’s Collective, spoke about the group’s broader goals. “Seeing families serve truly fresh vegetables at dinner promotes health for children and adults. That’s our main focus,” Fields said.
Community leader Reverend Samuel Price attended the opening and shared his optimism. “This is just the start,” Price said. “I see it growing because people want local food and want to support those making positive changes for Rivertown.”
The River Valley Fresh Market will be open every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rivertown Community Center. Will you visit and support your local farmers?
