After nearly five months of treatment and rehabilitation in Charlotte, 9-year-old Jordan Carter returned home after battling Guillain‑Barré Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that attacks the nervous system.
Family and friends gathered today to welcome Jordan with a surprise celebration. Organizers planned the event around Jordan’s favorite games and hobbies, bringing the community together to mark his progress.
Jordan’s mother, Alicia Carter, said his determination helped him through a difficult recovery. Doctors diagnosed Jordan with Guillain‑Barré Syndrome earlier this year after he experienced sudden paralysis from the neck down. Today, he has regained movement in his upper body but remains paralyzed from the waist down.
Alicia Carter wants to raise awareness about Guillain‑Barré Syndrome. She encourages parents to watch for early signs such as muscle weakness and pain that begins in the feet and legs and travels upward. Early treatment, she says, can make a difference.
Jordan continues to work with therapists and looks forward to joining his friends in more activities as he recovers.
