It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Johnson, a proud veteran who served his country with honor and distinction. Bill passed away on April 27, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 4, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Bill grew up in a patriotic family that instilled in him a deep love and respect for his country. After graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was awarded multiple medals for his service, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman Badge.

Following his military service, Bill returned to civilian life, where he continued to serve his community and country. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, and he was an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill also volunteered his time at the local VA hospital, where he provided comfort and support to his fellow veterans.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and gardening. He was known for his kind heart, generosity, and unwavering patriotism. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and he remained a steadfast advocate for his fellow veterans throughout his life.

Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary, their three children, and eight grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on May 2, 2023, at Arlington National Cemetery, where Bill will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Disabled American Veterans organization.
