Central Valley University football coach Marcus Reed has made a notable addition to his staff.
According to the Central Valley Athletics website, former State Tech defensive standout and second-round NFL Draft pick Derek Johnson has joined the program as a defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach.
Johnson entered the NFL as the 50th overall pick in the 2018 draft by Denver and was part of the 2020 Super Bowl-winning team.
During his time with Denver, he played in the defensive line rotation before spending a season in the PFL. Johnson retired from professional football earlier this year. At State Tech, the Westfield native and Lincoln High School graduate recorded 14 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, and 121 total tackles over three years.
