South Mississippi’s casino industry continues to thrive, with the latest figures from the Mississippi Gaming Commission indicating that more than $1.5 billion was spent at Coastal casinos in 2025.

John Miller, president of Gulfside Gaming and Magnolia Casinos, attributes the sustained success of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s gaming sector to experienced operators and robust customer loyalty programs. “You’ve got operators like Atlantic Gaming, Sterling Resorts, and Pinewood Entertainment—companies with expansive loyalty programs. Their customer databases bring thousands of regular visitors to the Gulf Coast,” Miller said.

Magnolia Casino has recently reopened its buffet and bakery following previous closures, moves that have been well received by the local community. “Dining is a big attraction for our guests. We’ve brought the buffet and bakery back, and both are better than ever,” Miller noted.

Meanwhile, Gulfside Casino in Ocean Springs is expanding its amenities to position itself as a premier resort destination. The property now features an RV park, golf course, marina, cigar lounge, cocktail bar, and spa. In addition, Gulfside is midway through a major hotel renovation, with six floors already complete and full completion expected by 2026. “We’re focused on expanding our appeal and attracting visitors from across the region,” Miller said.

Mississippi legislators are once again debating the legalization of mobile sports betting. Previous efforts cleared the House but stalled in the Senate. Miller believes that mobile betting would give customers more flexibility and help Mississippi casinos regain some of the market lost to neighboring states. “After Alabama legalized mobile wagering, we saw a decline in on-site sports betting,” Miller explained. “If Mississippi offers mobile betting, we hope to win back those customers.”

The launch of the Amtrak Southern Belle line in August 2025, which includes a stop in Ocean Springs, is also drawing new visitors to the region. Miller said the train service has increased both visitation and ridership, providing easy access for those interested in day trips to New Orleans. “It’s a convenient new way for guests to reach us,” he remarked.

To further encourage train travelers, Gulfside Casino now offers complimentary Uber rides from the Ocean Springs Amtrak station. “When you get off the train, there’s a sign with a QR code—just scan it and we’ll bring you right over,” Miller said.
