Mississippi Baptist Medical Center recently hosted its annual celebration for children who have transitioned from the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to pediatric primary care. This event, described by Dr. Kenny Robbins as “a party” and akin to “a birthday,” has been a tradition for 25 years, highlighting the hospital’s commitment not only to patient care but also to fostering strong relationships with families.

Dr. Robbins emphasized the unique bond formed with families during their time in the NICU, noting that many caregivers are parents themselves, which enhances their connection with the families they serve. “We’ve been through a lot together,” he remarked, underscoring the shared experiences between caregivers and parents.

Families often return for the annual celebration, drawn by the positive experiences they had while their children were in the hospital’s care. Ashley Kirkpatrick, whose triplets spent time in the NICU, spoke highly of the hospital staff. “We had no hesitation whatsoever. We knew they were in great hands,” she said. Her children, now nearly two years old and full of energy, enjoyed the festivities, which provided a joyful opportunity to see their progress and development.

For Dr. Robbins, witnessing the growth of these children is a significant reward of his medical career. “This is the real true reward for what we do,” he stated.

The yearly event features a different theme, with this year’s celebration embracing an Easter motif.
