In an initiative aimed at promoting a cleaner, greener city, the Willow Lane Creative Hub organized a community cleanup event on Monday, bringing together residents to enhance the environment in the Crestview Park neighborhood.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers donned gloves, grabbed trash bags and pickers, and spread out along local streets, collecting litter and debris as part of the center’s ongoing commitment to public service.
Alex Carter, director of Willow Lane Creative Hub, emphasized the importance of communal responsibility in maintaining the area’s appeal.
“As residents, we have a duty to care for the spaces we cherish,” Carter said. “This isn’t just about us—it’s about restoring pride and showing care for the neighborhood, because everyone deserves a clean and dignified community.”
Volunteer Mary Collins expressed hope that such events would inspire others to become more involved.
“Often, we forget the impact of giving back,” Collins said. “Willow Lane Creative Hub offers the perfect platform for the community to come together and make a tangible difference.”
In addition to the cleanup, the center is running a merchandise sale to support local food banks. Supporters who purchase a $10 T-shirt receive a reusable tote bag and are encouraged to fill it with nonperishable food items. The proceeds and food donations are distributed directly to organizations serving families in need. So far, the initiative has resulted in the donation of approximately 60 food bags and more than $2,000.
“We welcome everyone to participate in our recurring cleanup events, take advantage of our free recycling program, or join one of our many complimentary workshops,” Carter added. “Our ability to continue these programs depends on community support and donations.”
Willow Lane Creative Hub hopes their ongoing efforts will inspire more residents to contribute and foster a greater sense of unity throughout the city.
