With summer heat on the rise, Twin Oaks Electric is sharing tips to help residents cut down on high electric bills.
The power provider, which serves rural and small-town customers, points to air conditioning as the main source of high summer costs. Limiting how much you use it can lead to lower bills.
“Any step you take to avoid overusing your air conditioner will help you save — even if that means setting your thermostat higher than usual,” said Mark Ellis, spokesperson for Twin Oaks Electric. “We suggest keeping it at 78 degrees when it’s hot.”
The company also advises closing blinds to block sunlight and keep homes cooler. Staff remind customers to turn off the air conditioning when leaving the house.
Twin Oaks Electric has put together a “99 Ways to Save” guide, which offers practical ideas for managing electricity costs in both summer and winter. The company also encourages residents to check that all doors and windows seal tightly to keep out the heat.
Do you know how much energy your air conditioner uses when you’re not home? Simple changes, like adjusting the thermostat and checking window seals, can make a difference on your next bill.
